How this scam works
A street vendor or airport tout offers a cheap local SIM with instant activation.
They register it using someone else's or incorrect documents rather than your passport and visa.
It may work briefly, then get deactivated, or come with hidden charges you did not agree to.
In some cases fraudulently registered SIMs are later used for crime, which can create real problems for the buyer.

- A SIM offered without properly checking your passport and visa.
- Instant activation that seems to skip the required paperwork.
- A price that seems too cheap, or vague answers about the plan.
What to do
- Buy only from official airport counters or authorized Jio, Airtel, or Vodafone Idea stores.
- Make sure the SIM is registered in your own name using your real passport and visa.
- Keep your receipt and the plan details in case of a dispute.
